IFTA Reporting Services — Florida Carriers
Never miss a quarterly IFTA deadline again. We prepare your fuel tax returns, reconcile your mileage logs, and e-file directly with the Florida Department of Highway Safety — accurately and on time, every quarter.
What Is IFTA and Who Needs It?
The International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) is a multi-state fuel tax reporting program for qualified motor vehicles that travel in two or more member jurisdictions. If your truck has two axles and a gross vehicle weight over 26,000 pounds — or three or more axles regardless of weight — and you drive across state lines, you are required to hold an IFTA license and file quarterly returns.
Florida issues IFTA decals through the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV). Every quarter, you must report the miles traveled and fuel purchased in each state. The math is complex: you calculate the net tax owed to or refunded from each state based on your actual miles-per-gallon and the per-state tax rates, which change quarterly.
Errors on IFTA returns trigger audits. Our team prepares accurate returns using your trip logs and fuel receipts, catches discrepancies before filing, and maintains your records in case you are ever audited.

What You Need to Provide
To prepare your quarterly return, we need your trip logs or mileage records showing miles driven per state, and your fuel purchase receipts showing gallons purchased per state. If you use ELD (Electronic Logging Device) data, we can work directly from your ELD reports. We will tell you exactly what format we need at the start of each quarter.
Many of our clients send us a simple spreadsheet or photos of their fuel receipts — we handle the rest. We will follow up if anything is missing so your return is never delayed due to incomplete records.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is required to file IFTA?
IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement) applies to qualified motor vehicles that operate in two or more IFTA member jurisdictions and have two axles with a gross vehicle weight over 26,000 lbs, or have three or more axles regardless of weight. If your truck crosses state lines and meets these criteria, IFTA filing is mandatory.
When are IFTA quarterly reports due?
IFTA reports are due four times per year: April 30 (Q1), July 31 (Q2), October 31 (Q3), and January 31 (Q4). Late filings incur penalties and interest. Freedom Carrier Service tracks your due dates and files on time every quarter.
What happens if I miss an IFTA filing deadline?
Missing an IFTA deadline results in a $50 penalty plus interest on any tax owed. Continued non-compliance can lead to license revocation, which would suspend your ability to operate in member jurisdictions. We recommend setting up a quarterly service to ensure you never miss a deadline.
What records do I need to keep for IFTA?
You must maintain records of all miles traveled in each jurisdiction and all fuel purchased, including fuel receipts showing date, seller name, gallons purchased, fuel type, price, and vehicle number. Records must be kept for four years. Our service includes a quarterly mileage reconciliation summary you can use for your files.
What is the difference between IFTA and IRP?
IFTA covers fuel taxes across member states — it calculates how much fuel tax is owed to each state based on miles driven there. IRP (International Registration Plan) covers license plate registration fees across states. Both are required for interstate trucking, but they are separate filings.
